June is PTSD Awareness Month

A time dedicated to increasing understanding of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and supporting those affected by it. PTSD can impact anyone—survivors of abuse, veterans, first responders, accident victims, and many others. Despite its prevalence, PTSD is often misunderstood, and stigma can prevent individuals from seeking the help they need.

This month, let’s commit to compassion, education, and support for those living with trauma.

Here are a few ways to raise PTSD awareness:

  • Start the Conversation: Talk openly about trauma and mental health with friends, family, and coworkers. Sharing stories can reduce shame and isolation.
  • Learn the Facts: Educate yourself about PTSD—its symptoms, causes, and treatments. Understanding leads to empathy and effective support.
  • Be a Source of Support: If someone you know is struggling, listen without judgment and encourage them to connect with a mental health professional.
  • Take Care of Yourself: Whether you’re healing from trauma or supporting someone who is, prioritize your mental well-being with healthy boundaries, rest, and self-compassion.

PTSD is not a weakness—it’s a response to trauma. Healing is possible, and no one has to walk the path alone. Let’s stand together this June to build awareness, reduce stigma, and offer hope.

Did you know?

Approximately 6% of adults in the U.S. will experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at some point in their lives. That means 1 in every 17 people may be living with the effects of trauma.
PTSD can impact anyone— regardless of age, gender, or background—and is often the result of experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Learn more and find support at www.ptsd.va.gov.
