A Message For Kids: Understanding Autism & Being A Kind Friend

This month, we’re learning about something important called Autism. Autism means that some people’s brains work a little differently and that’s okay! In fact, those differences can make the world more interesting and special.

Kids with autism may:

* Communicate in different ways (some may talk a lot, a little, or use other ways to express themselves)

* Like routines and knowing what’s coming next

* Be sensitive to sounds, lights, or touch

* Have strong interests in things they really love

* Play or interact in ways that might look different

Even though we are all different, we all have feelings and want to be understood, included, and treated with kindness.

How You Can Be a Kind and Helpful Friend

Be Kind
Always treat others the way you want to be treated—with kindness, patience, and respect.

Be Understanding
If someone acts differently, that’s okay! Everyone’s brain works in its own special way.

️Be Patient
Some kids may need more time to talk, play, or respond. That’s okay—give them time.

Invite Them to Play
Ask them to join you! Even if they say no, it’s always nice to be included.

Be a Friend
A smile, a hello, or sitting next to someone can make a big difference.

Don’t Tease or Bully
If you see someone being unkind, tell a trusted adult. Everyone deserves to feel safe.
