Autism Support & Evaluation

What is Autism?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that impacts how individuals communicate, behave, and interact socially. It is referred to as a “spectrum” because it includes a wide range of symptoms and abilities. People with autism have unique strengths and challenges, and their experiences vary greatly from person to person.

Key Features of Autism

  1. Communication Challenges: Individuals with ASD may experience difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication. This can range from delayed speech development to challenges in understanding gestures, facial expressions, or tone of voice.
  2. Social Interaction: People with autism may find it challenging to build or maintain relationships. They might struggle with understanding social cues, engaging in reciprocal conversations, or expressing emotions in ways that others find typical.
  3. Repetitive Behaviors and Interests: Many individuals with autism engage in repetitive movements or routines, such as hand-flapping, rocking, or strict adherence to a schedule. They might also have intense, focused interests in specific topics or activities.
  4. Sensory Sensitivities: Sensory processing differences are common. This might include heightened or diminished sensitivity to sounds, lights, textures, or smells, which can significantly impact daily life.

Understanding the Spectrum

ASD affects individuals differently. Some may need significant support in daily life, while others are highly independent and excel in specialized areas. Early intervention and tailored support can make a profound difference in helping individuals with autism thrive.

Who Might Experience It?

Signs may appear in early childhood, but autism affects people of all ages and presents uniquely in each individual.
