June is PTSD Awareness Month

June is PTSD Awareness Month a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support those affected by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, especially the brave military members, veterans, and families who serve our country. Here in San Antonio, Military City USA, we recognize the sacrifices made by our service members and the emotional challenges that can follow military service, deployment, combat exposure, and other traumatic experiences. PTSD can impact mental, emotional, and physical well-being, affecting relationships, daily life, work, and overall health. Many individuals may experience anxiety, depression, hypervigilance, nightmares, emotional numbness, irritability, or difficulty reconnecting after trauma. Healing takes time and no one should have to face it alone.

Here are a few meaningful ways to honor PTSD Awareness Month:

Raise Awareness: Help educate others about PTSD and the mental health challenges many service members and veterans experience. Open conversations help reduce stigma and encourage support.

Encourage Support & Treatment: Remind individuals and families that seeking counseling, therapy, peer support, or mental health services is a sign of strength not weakness.

Support Military Families: PTSD can affect spouses, children, and loved ones as well. Strong support systems and community connections matter.

Advocate for Mental Health Resources: Support programs and services that improve access to quality mental health care for active-duty military, veterans, and their families.

This June, let’s stand together to spread awareness, show support, and honor the resilience of those affected by PTSD because healing is possible, and no hero should struggle alone.

Did You Know?

Many military spouses become an important source of emotional support for their partner.

Did you know that simple things like patience, consistent routines, open communication, and emotional support can make a meaningful difference for someone navigating PTSD?

It’s also important for spouses to remember:

  • You cannot “fix” PTSD alone,
  • Healing takes time,
  • Encouraging professional support matters,
  • Your mental health matters too
